Hamari Adhuri Kahani (transl. Our incomplete story) is a 2015 Indian romantic drama film directed by Mohit Suri and produced by Mahesh Bhatt under the banner Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Vidya Balan, and Rajkummar Rao. It is based on the love story of Bhatt's parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.[4] The film was released worldwide on 12 June 2015 receiving mixed reviews from critics.
Plot[edit]
The movie opens with a woman Vasudha (Vidya Balan) stepping off a bus. An elderly man, Hari, sees a psychiatrist about hallucinations of his wife. His daughter-in-law takes him to his wife's funeral. There, he steals her ashes and leaves a diary for his son.
The story jumps to the past, where Vasudha is a single mother whose husband has been missing for five years. Bound to tradition, she has been waiting for him since he left her. Vasudha meets Aarav Ruparel (Emraan Hashmi) in one of his hotels, where she works as a floral arranger. Vasudha comes to save him in a mock fire drill, and he offers her a job in his hotel in Dubai, which she refuses at first. However, she later gets to know from police that her husband Hari (Rajkumar Rao) murdered five American journalists and is a member of a terrorist group. Worried for her son's future, she accepts the job offer given by Aarav.

Despite knowing about Vasudha's past and her son, Aarav falls in love with her. He tells her about his mother, who was a cabaret singer and a single parent, and how she fell in love with a man who tried to commit suicide for failing to save them from poverty. Vasudha shuns his feelings, saying that she belongs to someone else. At his request, she meets Aarav's mother and finally accepts Aarav's love. Vasudha encounters Hari at home, and tells him about Aarav. Hari storms out in anger and is arrested and jailed for being a wanted criminal. Vasudha asks Aarav to save Hari as he is innocent. Aarav tries to save Hari by bribing the home minister, but he reveals that Hari himself admitted to his crime. Vasudha refuses to marry Aarav because Hari's action tells her that he sacrificed his life for them to be together. It is then revealed to Aarav that Hari deliberately accepted his crime so that Vasudha will live in guilt, thinking Hari sacrificed himself for their love.
In order to free Vasudha out of her guilt, Aarav travels to Bastar, where Hari is accused of killing, to prove his innocence. Aarav meets Father Dayal, who reveals Hari's innocence. On the way back to Mumbai, Aarav smells the scent of the flowers that caused him to meet Vasudha. Following the scent, he goes into the jungle, not knowing that the place has mines. He accidentally steps on one of the mines. Realizing his predicament, Aarav smiles just before taking his foot off. Vasudha receives the news of Aarav's death and leaves Hari, who searches for her for two years. After finding her, she reveals to him that she knows about his fake sacrifice and tells him that she is not afraid of any tradition. He warns her that she will come back to him one day. Hari waits for Vasudha twenty-one years in vain.
Back in the present, the old woman from the bus, Vasudha, wants to be reunited with Aarav where he died. Hari takes Vasudha's ashes to scatter them in the forest of Bastar, where Aarav died. Thus, Aarav and Vasudha reunite after death.

Development[edit]
On 23 October 2013, Vishesh Films and Fox Star Studios extended their association and announced a three-film deal, City Lights, Hamari Adhuri Kahani and Mr. X.[5] It was then revealed that the film will be directed by Mohit Suri, and will release on 7 November 2013.[5] Initially it was decided the cast will start filming in May–June 2014, however the dates shifted to October 2014, owing to Emraan Hashmi's son's illness.[6] On February 2014, in an interview with Bombay Times, producer of the film Mahesh Bhatt revealed that the story of the film will be written by himself and it is based on the love story of his parents, Nanabhai Bhatt, Shirin Mohammad Ali and his stepmother.[7] In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Suri said Vidya Balan had to lose weight for the film and get into shape.[8] Before the development of the film, rumours spread that Balan opted out of the film 'as she needs some time for herself' and her character is replaced by Shraddha Kapoor.[9] On 14 March 2014, Bhatt refutes the news and confirmed that Balan 'is still on board'.[10] On 13 June 2014, reports finalising the release date of film – 12 June 2015 – was released.[11]
Casting[edit]
The leading cast of Emraan Hashmi and Vidya Balan was finalised on 23 October 2013,[5] marking their third collaboration after The Dirty Picture (2011) and Ghanchakkar (2013).[6] On 12 February 2014, it was confirmed that Rajkummar Rao will be joining the cast of the film.[6] On 6 October 2014, it was suggested that Rao will be playing the role of the husband of the character portrayed by Balan, to which he confirmed that he plays a 'pivotal role but not in terms of screen time'.[12][13] On 15 December 2014, it was reported Amala Akkineni will be seen in a cameo appearance in the film,[14] and she will be singing and enacting the title song of the film.[15] On 26 December 2014, it was revealed that Sara Khan will also be joining the cast of the film.[16]
Filming[edit]
Initially, the first schedule was planned to be widely shot in Cape Town, South Africa.[17] Filming began in Kolkata on 2 October 2014.[18] A portion of the climax scene of the film was shot on 3 October 2014, where Balan and Hashmi joined the immersion processions on the city's crowded roads overlooking the iconic Howrah Bridge.[18][19] The other portion of the scene was shot on 5 January 2015, inside a bardy style old house in Kolkata.[20]
After wrapping shooting in Kolkata, it was reported that the crew of the film started filming in Dubai for a total of sixteen days. The schedule was planned for a month back but shifted due to the weather conditions in the area.[21] On 20 October 2014, Balan and Hashmi were spotted shooting scenes at Dubai International Airport and further shoots took place around the city, including on Sheikh Zayed Road, Business Bay, Heritage Village, and other locations around Bur Dubai, Jumeirah and Dubai Marina.[22] After Dubai schedule, the team resumed their shoot in Cape Town before visiting back to Dubai for a further two days of shooting.[23] Most of the scenes for the two days shooting took place in Meena Bazaar along with its views of the dhows on Dubai Creek.[23]
The final scene of the United Arab Emirates schedule, was shot on 17 November 2014, in Miracle Garden and Suri added that though the city was generally treated for its high-tech buildings and modern landscapes, he wanted to romanticise it and show its softer side.[24] The film also features Abu Dhabi's Qasr Al Sarb desert resort.[21] The team shot the rest of the film in Mumbai.[25] The shooting for the film was completed during the mid-January 2015.[26]

Excellent film! Great direction, acting and story! Don't listen to the critics!
kite11113 June 2015
They rarely make a film with true talent and substance in Bollywood these days. A lot of Bollywood has just become a senseless over-production of childish comedy, over the top action and sleazy 'item songs'. No one pays attention to direction, acting, storyline and dialogues anymore. But Hamari Adhuri Kahani has ALL the ingredients of a genuine film that will touch your heart. Emran Hashmi displays one of his best acting performances in a romantic and emotional role. He has successfully played a character that you would usually expect from someone like Shah Rukh Khan. Vidya Balan is equally impressive. She convincingly makes you believe that she is a woman stuck in the situation portrayed in the film. Yet the overpowering strength of the film is the fresh storyline, powerful dialogues and gripping direction. The connection with the audiences is so strong that it really makes you feel for the characters and will almost push you to tears. The songs and background music of the film are the pleasant icing on the cake. If you want to appreciate a great romantic film that will truly appeal to your emotions, PLEASE go and watch this movie! You will not be disappointed!!

Sensitive story of every woman
acharyasailesh13 June 2015
It is a story of real Indian woman. Not the liberated, modern and independent woman but every other girl who despite being educated and employeed is buried under the tag of being a daughter, mother and wife. It tells real story of how difficult it is for them to find and feel love. It is a very sensitive movie and needs understanding of human pain and emotion. It is not some fun, masti, timepass movie for so called modern people who find everything traditional regressive. It shows the real situation not some make belief happy world. Yes, it is dialogue heavy and little filmy but that is expected of an emotional love story. Brilliant. Watch it.

What's with all the negativity? The movie is freaking awesome <3
AmanAjmani13 June 2015
A Spoiler Free Review : First of all, let me tell you, I'm a Hollywood buff, but I love occasional Bolly stuff too of which my favorites being A Wednesday, Ek Chalis Ki Last Local, Rockstar, ZNMD, Fanaa, Ishqiya, Udaan, Dev D, Bheja Fry. and some of them more. Well, I don't know why, but I chose Hamari Adhuri Kahaani to watch over Jurassic World(I'll watch that too, later :p), and Oh Boy! Did I made the right decision.
The movie is just fantastic, ek villain didn't impressed me at all(the songs were the ones which dragged it's so called 'success') But Aashiqui 2 was kind of good with some major plot holes, & the same goes with this one. I'm not implying that, Hamari Adhuri Kahani is one of a kind, It has many cliché moments, but the way Mohit opted to narrate the story, caught me into it.
This movie is purely performance driven. Vidya Balan stole my heart with her innocence but I've been a fan of her acting skills since Kahaani anyways. Rajkummar Rao delivering a top notch performance And Emraan Hashmi stole the show, I'm not gonna publicly admit that i cried every time he had tears in his eyes, I'm not gonna do that :p
All in all guys, this movie is packed with a hardhitting story, with an amazing climax (ignore the one's who are criticizing it, watch it for yourself & then judge it), the atmosphere (locations) serves as an eyecandy including the songs which gave me goosebumps, literally every time when the tittle track went on.
The movie is made for a Silver Screen so do watch it there. Worth ever penny, you'll love it :)

Excellent Movie and Touching.
me-966-22940712 June 2015
This movie is an excellent piece of story. I cannot better rate this movie. I am compelled to write this review due to the touching nature of this movie. Emraan Hashmi's impeccable performance and lovely story. It reminds you the importance of love and how the Indian society and community needs to steer its mentality from the illogical, stupid and ruthless mindset of old times. Take everyone in your family to watch this movie. The movie has very good story plot. It's not an illogical movie plot. The best part of the movie was that there limited songs as stupid movies have many songs to fool audience. This movie had 2-3 songs only at places where the scene demanded it and your heart wanted it. Mohit suri could not do a better job at directing an emotional movie that is universally rated with Emraan Hashmi in it. Go with a positive mind and you will truly appreciate this movie.

Love is blind but beautiful as here the lead actor fell in love with a florist.
shweta_swee12 June 2015
Mind blowing picture, the way hashmi express his love is just speechless.all couples must watch this movie as they can only find it meaningful.mature roles has been played here with deep meanings.A very nice story directed by Mohit suri ,worth watching it.'Tera bin bole samajh Jana' -great job Emraan hashmi, love u for this performance. The dilemma part in Vidya balan's life in this movie when she came to know that her husband is a terrorist n she has to inform police whenever she gets even a call from him to help them to arrest him, there she acts beautifully. Hashmi dialog are so powerful that drives your attention. Those Adam lily flowers will be now mostly preferred by the love birds in the city .haha..i too went to check out its fragrance as d movie reflects them so convincing.Well don't miss this movie guys ,a new philosophy,a new script has been brought down beautifully on screen.:) :)

Don't judge by the overall rating. Must Watch!
hamamalhar8 October 2015
Actually even i had lost a bit of interest after looking at the overall rating. But i was awed after i actually watched it. The music is soothing, it brings a tear or two. I still have the effect in me. Honestly i wish this story was published as a book. It would have contained a lot of insight and more weight. But still, Mohit Suri has done a hell of a job. One of the recent best emotional movie I'v watched this is. Some of the scenes would just pinch a muscle in the heart, thanks to the music and contents of the scene. Bollywood is improving, what with the kinds of films like YJHD. Even though the ending of Ashiqui 2 had me in disappointment, the story telling and acting put up in this movie just made me register for IMDb and write a review. Emraan Hashmi, with his love-felt looks, brings out the pain of a person who hadn't felt love, and covered by the money he has. Rajkumar Rao is outstanding. I like his movies. His acts are subtle. Brings out the character and hasn't failed to do so in the movie. He makes us cry with his innocence in the 'real time' of the story. Vidya Balan is cute. I'd rather tell sweet. Conveys the plot perfectly. Overall it is a must watch for movie buffs who wouldn't want a movie to end. Thank You.

Very touching love story
diwanmaithily29 August 2015
A very touching love story. An unconditional love beyond the institution of marriage and society. Watch this movie for beautiful story , great performance by the protagonists. I never liked Imran Hashmi till I watched this movie. I think he did a fabulous job and he looks cool in those business suits. As usual Vidya Balan gives stunning performance as Vasudha. She can get into any character very easily.she looks beautiful in the sarees. At some point you will predict the story, even then you will enjoy watching the movie for its simplicity in depicting this sensitive story. Kudos to the music director jeet ganguly for melodious songs which go very well with the movie.somehow all Imran hashmi movies end up getting awesome sound tracks. Hmmm. The title song steals your heart. Arijit Singh's magical voice makes u want to hear that song again and again. Good direction and all in all a nice movie. Would recommend to all who like emotional and romantic movies.

Such a romantic movie. Music will touch your heart. dialogue are excellent and sometimes will make you cry. Vidya always good. She proved that still now she is better than all the young actress of bollywood. The best part of the movie is Emraan Hashmi. The way he delivered the dialogue with so much emotions its speechless. He is definitely one of the best actor in Bollywood now.Wow such a brilliant performance.don't know why it got so less star. But it worth of watching.yes direction is bit weak. But who cares about the the little negative points when its such a beautiful movie.loved watching the movie.

Emran rocks, unconvincing climax, overall one time watchable for the dialogues and performances!
maulin512 June 2015
First of all let me tell you that in the afternoon show of this movie, which doesn't have any Khan or Kumar in it, the house was full. Yeah, it's not convincing but it is true. The whole theater was full, especially with the youngsters. This clearly shows that Music hit, to Movie hit! Mohit Suri is popular for making films which are more related to the youngsters and especially the couples. The songs become popular before the movie release. He is the same director who made Ashiqui2 which became super hit without any stars and Ek Villain which collected 100cr at the box office without any storyline. So he rejoins the Bhatt camp and convince Mahesh Bhatt to write the story. Because of the family project, Emran Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao had been finalized for the respected roles. And Vidya Balan is selected because of the suggestion of Mahesh Bhatt. And then first of all, they create the soulful soundtrack. They even bought the song Zaroori Tha from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for the better success of the album. Thus the film began to start! Story line is not refreshing. Old wine has been served in new bottle. But, the stars make the bottle a worthy drink. Undoubtedly, everyone will talk about Emran Hashmi after the movie. Though Vidya Balan is also fantastic and Rajkumar Rao also acts well. But, he is not convincing as a terrorist, or as an old man or as the husband of Vidya Balan. Vidya looks perfect for the role. But, it is Emran who makes the audience cry, who makes the audience to feel sad for him through his eyes, especially where tears come out from them. Music is outstanding. The best song that suits in it is Zaroori Tha. Title track is awesome. Jeet Ganguly once again proved that he can give the best! Last paragraph of that song is playing in the climax where Rao throws ashes in the garden, is the best scene with full emotions. Hasi and Hamnawa are also listenable. Dialogues are another plus point. The film is majorly dependent on Hashmi's powerful dialogues. Cinematography is as usual as we had seen in Suri's previous movies. Story looks good till interval, even after post interval, too. But, I don't convince with the climax and its twist. I'm hoping for something good for all, but, Suri only loves not so happy ending. This film shows the true love between two persons, so the Girlfriend-Boyfriend type people may not like this film. I'm saying so because I've watched some faces after the movie. On the whole, you can watch it once if you are a fan of Emran Hashmi or even Mohit Suri. I think it's better than Mohit's last 3-4 releases. But than also only Emran steals the show. This is his first U certified film, so family audience can also go for it. Hamari Adhuri Kahani can make only one difference and that is the return of Emran Hashmi!

In the era where all the movie rotate around stunts and stupid songs,A different movie which shows what really LOVE IS.
After a long time i felt something in my heart feeling love inside most of them wont like this movie as they are addicted to the stunts, sexy songs, stupid jokes and crazy things.
This movie focuses on LOVE and Mercy to others..
Should watch one time. I liked the song Hasi and the Title song.
Story is between the rituals and love.
Plot: Five years after the mysterious disappearance of her husband, a woman becomes romantically involved with a wealthy hotelier and together they confront her past.
Though there are some errors but ignorable.

Emraan Hashmi made it worth watching
n_dhruv13 June 2015
Hamari Adhuri Kahani is a kind of movie that is worth watching only because of its music and Emraan Hashmi. Mohit Suri's direction is as expected superb. Music is already hit and love to hear in cinema hall. Some dialogs are awesome and you'll love them more when they come from Emraan's mouth with awesome expressions.
Emraan Hashmi is speechless this time. You'll love him in every scene. He is totally brilliant in every scene. Vidya Balan is nice too. Rajkumar Rao as expected he always put a smile in audience's face when with his acting. Other supportive actors have done nice job too.
I don't know why this movie got less ratings but i enjoyed it whenever Emraan Hashmi is on screen. Music and background score help to connect audiences with the soul of the screenplay and story.
Overall, forget what reviews this movie got just go and fall in love like Aarav Ruparel. Emraan Hashmi played a character about which you'll not stop thinking after coming from cinema hall.

Well worth taking the pride of the ticket ..
mbh69012 June 2015
From the trailers and songs , most of the movie is sorta guessed at. A sad / tragic love story , the question remains it has been handled well by the scriptwriters , the director etc.
The answer is a resounding yes. This is Mohit Suri's forte and he has elicited a fantastic performance from Emraan , Vidya. In particular this is Emraan's movie , his eyes speak volumes in his scenes.
The music is well placed.
The characters are not black or white , but grey, with their self motivations.
It's worth the money of the ticket. Go for it ..

A decent story, let down by silly gaffes due to silly gaffes and weak first half
psbanerjee12 June 2015
What works:
1. The core story - though on the surface, it seems to be a cliché around love, sacrifice and longing, it has it's soul in the right place.
2. Great performances by Vidya Balan and Rajkumar Rao.
Where it fails:
1. Fist half is too weak. Too many intertwined sub-plots and connected stories take long to setup the premise.
2. Lack of attention to obvious details: Majority of the story is in flashback, set 21 years back from today, which means it's set in 1994. Yet you get to see Samsung mobiles with front facing cameras, characters taking and sharing selfies, and worst of the lot, mobile internet and lightening fast internet in the midst of a jungle which can send a video file through in 5 secs!
Overall, a lost opportunity to create a good evergreen movie due to silly mistakes and gaps in script-writing..

An Excellent Movie To Watch
zanwer14323 August 2015
What's better than watching a classy movie on a weekend in your bed alone. Its a movie that one can say is composed of the very true and pure emotions, that depict the reality of life.
Best Lines:
i) 'Nothing in this world is perfect without imperfections' P.S God has made everything on purpose. ii) 'You can't love until you stop being selfish, Love is about giving away its not an ordinary trade' iii) 'Love is a responsibility not everyone can take it'.
Best Scene: Imran Hashmi giving his life in lily garden.
I gave 10 to this movie it impressed me on every ground that's the reason why I haven't left watching Bollywood movies because they occasionally produce a real master piece and its one of them

This made me realize what True love is !!!
darshans-0387417 August 2015
Being an avid English movie viewer, I was rather a pessimist to watch this movie. What started out as a lazy couch potato movie turned out to be one of the most loved movies by me. I never expected that love could be shown in such beautiful ways. The manner in which the male protagonist has portrayed the emotions and the feel of it is unexplainable. The way in which the director has captured the essence of emotions is truly remarkable.I would truly recommend this movie a watch. If you really want to fall in love again this is the movie you should watch.Vidya does a fantastic job with her portrayal of sadness and love. i could relate to the pain in Emran's eyes.It was too good to be true.

Very heart touching movie
kbhasuri13 June 2015
I have been liking his movies since long. He is known for the music which he nailed it here too. The emotions in this movie were really very heartwarming. Few scenes where vidya balan talks about women and traditions or her feelings for imran were really emotional. The whole movie had 'the feeling of love' in it. Imran's performance was great. The passion he had for his love, the way he didn't have to prove it - All these things did add plus points to this movie. I would really give 10 stars to Shreya ghasal for 'Haan hasi ban gaye' and Arijit singh for the title song. Its a must watch movie if romantic movies are your genre.

Flawed but HAK is full of beautiful mature emotions, and great acting. If only the story was as good, still a one time watch for sure!
jmoneyjohal12 June 2015
Warning: SpoilersDirector Mohit Suri's Hamari Adhuri Kahani is an anachronistic, tragic romance that touches an emotional chord, yet, makes you dismiss it as a regressive piece of art. The direction appears confused, with a present-day setting, while the treatment of the plot and characters belong to a bygone era.
The story, with its verbose, melodramatic and regressive dialogues, along with outdated metaphors and symbolism, fits into the 1970's mould perfectly. Sadly, the audience today will not relate to it.
An intriguing tale, nevertheless, it is all about love. It is an engaging story of a married lady bound by the shackles of society, yearning for true love.
The dramatic prologue lays the foundation of the narration. It is 22 years since Vasudha (Vidya Balan) has left her husband Hari (Rajkummar Rao). Upon learning of her death, Hari, steals the urn as he is adamant about immersing her ashes in Bastar and not in the Ganges, to enable Vasudha attain salvation.
Hari's truth - the story of his life is unravelled through a diary that he leaves behind for his son Sanjh to read.
Mahesh Bhatt has penned this semi-biographical convoluted saga, with well-etched characters who are intense and complex. High on emotional quotient, he leaves his imprint with the well-structured, tight and intelligently-woven script. But it is the clichéd, archaic and effusive expositions that nail the narrative.
Recounted in a non-linear manner and packed with back stories, what holds your attention are the potent performances given by the ace star cast. This is undoubtedly the key reason to watch the film.
Emraan Hashmi delivers a sensitive performance, quite contrary to his usual image. As Arav Ruparel, the sauve and successful businessman who owns 108 hotels and is emotionally drawn to Vasudha, he is convincing.
Vidya Balan as the protagonist brings out the pathos of a distraught mother and abandoned wife seeking true love, through an emotionally intense portrayal. She does justice to her character, but expectedly so. Your heart bleeds for her at the treatment that fate has meted out to her.
With a broad spectrum of emotions, ranging from a possessive husband to a harassed victim of circumstances seething with anger to the subdued psychotic, Rajkummar Rao wows you with his power-packed and nuanced performance as Hari. He is a natural before the camera.
The other noticeable character in a cameo is Apurva, Arav's friend-cum-man Friday. With his spontaneity, tone and sense of timing, he lends a fresh perspective to the sardonic lackey, eliciting many a laughter at his 'flight delay' dialogues.
Yesteryear actor Amala as Rohini, Arav's mother, is a huge disappointment. Although the character allows her ample opportunity to perform, she offers nothing to make it memorable.
Technically, with excellent production values and decent music, the visuals by cinematographer Vishnu Rao are vibrantly brought to life by his meticulous framing.
Watch this one if you are moved by sad love stories. The good performances are an added bonus.

Sensitive Topic Kept Under 'Carpet'
prabhulaldamji20 June 2015
Warning: SpoilersRecently in United Kingdom, a report by a Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) highlighted the current position of reviews either by public or so called experts on services or products. Part of the report made the following comments: CMA discovered cases which have been known as AstroTurfing - the practise of creating fake grass root reviews. Among the potentially misleading cases, on unnamed sites, were; Businesses writing fake reviews of themselves to boost their ratings on review sites compared with rivals. Firms writing or commissioning fake negative reviews to undermine rivals, for malicious reasons, or for personal gain. Review sites cherry-picking positive reviews. Sites allowing businesses to remedy negative reviews, that go unpublished, meaning a complete picture is not clear to review site users. No doubt the above practises are world over and I am sure Bollywood industry is not exempt, especially considering the reviews received for this movie both by the film critics, other public reviews on sites such as this. Having read most of the negative reviews by the film critics and certain sites, decided to ignore them and took the step to find for myself what this movie is all about. After watching it, its amazing to find that one of most sensitive subject that's currently prevalent in all communities, society, cultures across the globe which has been kept under the 'carpets' for centuries (so as to say) being an important part of the story and not much publicity or comments being made. Not sure if I should be surprised or not that this is what happens in this male dominating world of ours. Shame on some film critics who are of the same gender who are affected by this practise for not pointing out clearly in their respective reviews. Bravo to both Mahesh Bhatt and Mohit Suri doing this bold movie. Hats off to Vidya Balan for working in this movie and giving outstanding performance better than one done by Kangna in Tanu Weds Manu Returns. Best music album of the year so far.

A Sentimental Journey
ladyxoc17 June 2015
Warning: SpoilersVidya Balan seems to be working her way through the divinities. Draupadi, (Dirty Picture); Durga (Kahaani); and now Radha in HAK. If you go to see it, make sure you bring at least a small pack of tissues. The movie is quite emotional, although much of it is over-sentimentalized, a look back at films and attitudes from a generation past.
First, the negatives: The first half might have been cut here and there by ten or fifteen minutes. The acting of Emraan Hashmi seems to be confined to two expressions. In just one scene does Vidya Balan's character seem real. As pointed out in one review, there are many anachronisms involving technology. This could be quite distracting to someone technologically aware.
HOWEVER, overall the plot and characters keep the audience involved, and that is the real test of a film. Rajkummar Rao is stunning as the obsessed husband, an ugly, complex human being somehow strayed from the real world into this flower-strewn romance. The locales are beautiful and beautifully shot; the music is lovely. All in all, worth seeing.
